Hey Reader, I’m hopped up on entirely too much coffee right now, but I wanted to make sure I got this out to you before it all wears off and I zonk out. First, I hope you’ve had a wonderful week. The summer seems to be flying by at a record pace, and I hope you’re all able to catch a bit of summer magic before it’s gone completely. I know I’m trying. Second, I’ve recorded two podcast episodes for season 3 so far and I’m just so excited to share them. I’ll keep you posted. And now, here are five things that have made my week (in case you missed last week, I'm doing this during the month of my birthday, but then I'll be back to regularly scheduled programming): 1. Notes from friends. When you send out a weekly newsletter, you’re never 100% sure anyone is reading it. I mean, there are all kinds of statistics you can track, like who opened it, who read it, who clicked, etc. but that’s not really knowing. Really knowing is when people write you back. And while I’ve been on the receiving end of some lovely sentiments, the note I received last week couldn’t have been timed better. Enormous thanks to my dear old friend, Patty (thanks, Patty❤️) and to anyone who has ever written back. You can’t know how much it means! 2. A quote. “Forever is composed of nows.”—Emily Dickinson If that isn’t a reminder to be more present, I don’t know what is. And since I’m trying to soak up everysinglesecond with my son before he goes back to college—did I mention he goes to school in Hawaii? And that Hawaii is quite far away from New Jersey? Sob sob—I am considering this a sign from the universe. Soak. It. Up. 3. Big fat bravery. Not sure if you saw the news, but “South Park” has created a skit about Trump and well, he’s furious. And listen, I’m not a huge “South Park” watcher, not because I don’t like the show, but because I’ve just literally never really seen it (I know, I know! It’s like I live under a rock) BUT, when you see bravery, you need to call it out. And when you’re brave enough to portray a president and a company that neither journalists nor corporations are holding accountable? Well, you get a special section in my newsletter! 4. Coffee. You all know I work from home, right? Well, lately, I’ve been making this extra effort to connect with friends IRL (not online or on the phone) over coffee. Usually, I consider myself, and everyone else, too busy. We have laundry, and work, and doctor’s appointments and exercise and dinner and hello maybe we even want to relax now and then. But you know what? I’ve had coffee with friends on four separate occasions in the past two weeks and instead of making me more tired, I feel totally energized! FRIENDS ARE AMAZING. Why didn’t I do this before? 5. A book I so enjoyed Here’s a little need to know about me: I am a SUCKER for any type of “Sliding Doors” story where a character gets to see how their life would have turned out if they’d done things differently. And “The Other Side of Now” by Paige Harbison totally delivers on that front. Highly recommend if you’re wondering how you would have spent your 51st birthday if only you had gone on that sailboat trip in 1997. Enjoy! I'll be back next week with another 5. And if you’re missing Roar in the meantime, you can always catch up on past episodes or revisit your favorites right here. Season 3 is coming—and I can’t wait to share what’s next. XO, |
